We are recruiting motivated students who want to do careful, technical research at the intersection of traffic flow theory, vehicle technology, and AI for mobility.

Prospective PhD students

Strong candidates have a background in transportation engineering, civil engineering, mechanical/automotive engineering, computer science, or applied math. We particularly value: solid programming (Python and one of MATLAB/C++/Julia); comfort with mathematical modeling; and curiosity about how vehicles, drivers, and infrastructure jointly produce traffic phenomena. Prior research experience (a thesis, an internship, or a published paper) helps.

To apply, submit a complete application through the USF Graduate School for the CEE PhD program and name me as a faculty of interest. Before you apply, you are welcome to send a short email (CV + a paragraph on what you’d like to work on) to haozhou1@usf.edu.

MS students at USF

If you are already enrolled in the CEE MS program at USF and want to do a research-track MS or independent study with the lab, get in touch. Plan on at least one semester of involvement before joining a paper.

Undergraduate researchers

I host a small number of undergraduate researchers each year, typically through USF’s research programs or by independent study. Email me with your transcript, a brief description of your interests, and how much time per week you can commit.

Postdocs

Postdoc opportunities are project-funded. Watch this page or contact me directly when you see a posting.
